Post a comment when you figure it out …
Well, have you figured out what our Colossians scripture means by “the firstborn over all creation”?
I got NO comments on that question – big sad face … I guess I’ll ask an easier one next time.
Does it mean that after Mary gave birth to Jesus, that she had other children as well – so Jesus is called the firstborn?
Does it mean that Jesus was the “first created entity” at a time near Creation?
No – not either of these.
The title “firstborn” is given to others in the Bible besides Jesus. Do you know who?
Here’s one: The nation of Israel …
- Exodus 4:22-23 And you will say to Pharaoh, ‘Thus says Yahweh, Israel is my firstborn son; and I say to you, Let my son go that he may serve me …
Here’s another: David …
- Psalm 89:20,27 I have found My servant David; With My holy oil I have anointed him. . . . Also I will make him My firstborn, The highest of the kings of the earth.
Firstborn refers to the rights and authority of a person. When God calls you His firstborn, consider yourself in a pretty special relationship.
When Jesus is called the “firstborn over all creation”, it means Jesus is the heir of creation and the Lord over it. All of creation is being brought under the authority of Christ.
Jesus enjoys a special status with respect to creation; He is Lord over it.
Just some food for thought … hope you enjoy digging deep, too.
Hope your memorizing is coming along! The next section gets assigned in a few days … ! Keep practicing – you can do it!!
